How can I view my domain before the DNS Service is activated?
In order to view your site from our servers before the DNS Service is activated, you should follow the steps below:
1. Find the hosts file in your computer
The file is in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc folder.
2. Make sure that the file is not read-only
Right click on the file and choose 'Properties'. On the new tab make sure that the 'Read-only' option is disabled.
3. Edit the file
Open the file with a text editor, e.g. Notepad (in Window Vista, right click Notepad and choose 'Run as administrator'). In the file there will be a line for 'localhost'. Add two new lines in the form 'IP - domain'. The IP is the address of your new server (e.g. 22.214.171.124). The IP of your own site is sent to you in the hosting activation email. For example, the edited file should look like this (replace Papaki.gr with your own domain):
Then save the 'host' file and close Notepad.
4. Open your site
Type your domain on your browser, in order for your site to run from Papaki's server as if your nameservers have changed. All the changes mentioned above do not affect the nameservers. This means that the site will not be accessible from other computers until the nameservers are informed by all ISPs.
As soon as your namesrvers are informed, we suggest to remove the line you added in the 'host' file and save it again.
